The selection of Joe Biden as Barack Obama's Vice Presidential run
ning mate is said to be the result of Senator Biden's foreign policy experience. But recent stories in Ha'aretz and the Jerusalem Post suggest that Joe Biden's experience is that of an appeaser.
Ha'aretz indicated that Joe Biden told a closed door meeting of senior Israeli officials that Israel would just have to reconcile itself with a nuclear Iran.
"Democratic vice-presidential candidate Joe Biden was quoted Monday as telling senior Israeli officials behind closed doors that the Jewish state will have to reconcile itself to a nuclear Iran.
"In the unsourced report, Army Radio also quoted Biden as saying that he opposed 'opening a additional military and diplomatic front.'"
The Jerusalem Post confirmed the meeting, but suggested that it took place three years ago.
If this story is correct, it suggests that an Obama/Biden Administration will follow a policy of appeasement concerning Iranian nuclear weapons. Biden has been also quoted as in favor of providing Iran two hundred million dollars in foreign aid. Not even Neville Chamberlain suggested providing monetary aid to Hitler's Germany as a reward for grabbing the Sudetenland.
Worse, Barack Obama has repeatedly inveighed against missile defense. That means that under an Obama/Biden Administration, Iran would not only possess nuclear weapons, but the United States would not have the means to defend itself against them nor assist any other nation, such as Israel, to defend itself. Presumably the anti missile defense system about to be build in Eastern Europe would be cancelled under an Obama/Biden Administration, which would have the effect of not only appeasing Iran but Russia, which has objected to the system, as well.
Senator Joe Biden has a history of favoring appeasement. During the 1980s, Biden opposed both the Reagan defense buildup and the Strategic Defense Initiative. Both have been credited by historians in facilitating the fall of the Soviet Empire. Biden also opposed the First Gulf War, which ejected Saddam Hussein's army from Kuwait.
