Okay, It's an Older Movie, but it is a Great Political Commentary

I am sitting here at home after finishing watching Team America with my wife. We recorded this a few months back, and yes I know it's several years old, but if you think about it the movie has some very realistic depictions of the different groups in it. First you have to get though the amazingly ru
de lyrics for a few songs (though I must admit they are funny), and some of the vulgar graphical depictions (which again did have some hysterical qualities). The key here is to look at how they portray the groups and the points made by those depictions.

First, King Jung Il, the Korean leader. It shows him as a very insecure person who is upset because nobody thinks he is very smart or dangerous. Hmm, how about the recent claims of having nuclear weapons? How about the tests, and threatening to conduct more? How about the threats to engage the U.S. in a nuclear war? Guess what those are all signs of him being insecure and trying to make people view him as a world power and a threat. The movie touched on this several years before these occurrances.

Take a look at the terrorists. It shows them as a group that is reactionary, willing to align themselves with anyone that will finance them, and overly emotional. The attack on the Panama Canal is rationalized by the terrorists as "well we had to show them for their attack on our camp". What do you think the insurgents in Iraq are doing? Scary how reality matches the movies sometimes. They end up teamed up with Jung Il from Korea because he will finance them. This is similar to how terrorist groups will align themselves with factions of numerous middle eastern countries because they know they can supply them with the finances they need.

  • Look for symbolism even if movies that seem to have no point
  • Great movie makers convey their political opinions without you ever knowing it
  • Look fo rmultiple meanings to a movie plot line
