Leonardo DiCaprio Wants to Make a Twilight Zone Feature Film

Rod Serling's classic TV drama The Twilight Zone has entertained and fascinated fans for decades. It recently attracted a real Hollywood power broker. Megastar Leonardo DiCaprio (Titanic,
The Aviator) loves the classic television show and reportedly has stated it's his favorite TV show of all time. He's now in the process of taking story pitches from writers and considering what form his feature film will take.

Back in 1983, Hollywood hotshot directors Steven Spielberg, Joe Dante and John Landis created their own big budget film treatment of the show, though it became mired in controversy when star Vic Morrow tragically died on set along with two young children. The movie essentially remade three Twilight Zone classic episodes: "Kick The Can", "It's A Good Life" and "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet" - with a new segment and also a weird, wacky prologue with Dan Aykroyd and Albert Brooks.

The original The Twilight Zone ran for five seasons - from 1959 to 1964. With tons of eerie episodes to choose from, there's a treasure trove of unforgettable stories and memorable characters to spur on DiCaprio's writers to concoct strange new tales for his movie. Even if DiCaprio decides to do a wholly original new storyline for his film, he would do well to take a look at these classic Zones, if only for their powerful other worldly inspiration.

Time Enough At Last

Regarded by many zone fans as one of the very best stories, with sadistic twist ending, this post nuclear holocaust tale depicts star Burgess Meredith as Henry Bemis, who plods through life as a bookish bank teller whose sole passion is ingesting as many books as he can. When a nuclear war destroys most everything and everyone except himself, Meredith now looks forward to the rest of his days reading as many books as possible. I won't give away the twist, despite how well known the story may be, but let's just say that the episode could double as an infomercial for contact lenses.

Eye Of The Beholder

  • "The Howling Man" stars John Carradine as a monk convinced he's locked up the Devil.
  • "Midnight Sun" ponders the world's fate if it kept heating up to sweltering temperatures.
  • "Eye Of The Beholder" explores the adage 'Beauty Is Only Skin Deep'- a Twilight Zone masterpiece
