Those that have been on the Atkins diet know that it is quit simple to follow. Although, the principle of the diet is plainly set out in the diet book, there are still some very common mistakes. Even though these mistakes are common they can make a great difference in the success of your diet. If you have not been successful on the Atkins Diet, or if you suddenly start gaining weight after effective dieting, you may be making these common mistakes.

The first thing you should remember is that if you lose as much as 8 pounds per week during the introductory stage of the diet, then slow down once you enter the second stag of the diet, this is a normal occurrence. The levels of carbohydrates, which are all right during the Introduction stage of the Atkins diet, are not designed to be the proper amount during the remainder of the stages. During the Introduction stage, you body has to break the cravings of carbohydrates as well as detoxify itself from sugar. When you go into the ongoing weight lose phases, you will begin to reintroduce a certain amount of carbohydrates back into your diet. By doing this, the rate at which you lose weight will normally slow down.

In addition, as with any diet, people will react differently. There are those who will lose weight in cycles and others who will lose weight steadily throughout the diet plan. When you temporarily stop losing weight, this is referred to as being on a plateau. This plateau can last as much as a few weeks, then all of a sudden, you will drop five pounds in a matter of a couple of days.

When you are on the Atkins diet be sure to avoid the intake of caffeine in any form such as aspartame, which is a common type of artificial sweetener. Both aspartame as well as caffeine can have an impact on you blood sugar levels in a negative way. Much caffeine is found in sodas, and aspartame is in many diet sodas and sugar-free gelatin. These chemicals can cause your body to go out of ketosis in as little as one serving.

Takeaways
  • Remember to eat many vegetables during the introductory phase as well as other phases.
  • Eating regularly is vital when on the Atkins diet.
  • Limit your intake of cheese.
