Dorothy Lane Market Provides Unique Gourmet and Organic Foods in Dayton, Ohio

I spent the past weekend in Dayton, Ohio, and while exploring the city, I discovered a wonderful grocer and gourmet food store called Dorothy Lane Market.

Dorothy Lane Market began in Dayton, Ohio, in 1948 as a fruit stand. Today, there are three locations in the Dayton, Ohio metro area. The original location is at 710 Far Hills Avenue at the corner of Far Hills Avenue and Dorothy Lane. This location is open 24 hours a day. The second location is at 6177 Far Hills Avenue and is open daily from 7:00am to 11:00pm. The latest location is 740 N Main Street in Springsboro, Ohio and is open daily from 7:00 am to 11:00pm.

Dorothy Lane Market is unique in that they carry many of the brands and foods that one would find in a normal supermarket. However, they also carry considerably more including several organic food brands and a number of gourmet items.

The deli counter at Dorothy Lane Market may be one of the most impressive deli counters in Dayton, Ohio. The selection was simply amazing. I sampled their salmon patties and macaroni and cheese. Both were delicious. The salmon patty had green onions which was a nice change from the typical overabundance of dill. The macaroni and cheese was rich and very creamy. The prices in the deli were very reasonable.

I was also very impressed with Dorothy Lane Market's bakery. They featured what appeared to be the widest selection of artisan breads in Dayton, Ohio, and an impressive pastry case as well. Again, prices were extremely reasonable for gourmet and natural foods.

Their meat counter also had an impressive selection. The prices on their fresh meats and seafood were quite a bit higher than a typical supermarket in Dayton, Ohio, but I found them to be on par with prices in organic markets in the nearby Columbus, Ohio, area.

The produce section of Dorothy Lane Market featured a lot of organic food choices as well as a wide selection of local produce. I was delighted to be able to buy local produce and support small farms in the Dayton, Ohio, area.
