Clinical depression (The Common Cold of Mental Health or major depression disorder) a state of mind feeling hopelessness, sadness, melancholia or advanced stage of despair to the point of being disruptive in an individual's daily actives or social functions, persists for many weeks at a time. Depression affects children, men and women at any age. Estimated 19 million American adults are living with major depression. The signs or symptoms associated to this state of mind includes sadness, pessimism, worthlessness, loss of interest or pleasure in activities or hobbies that were once enjoyed, and could potential lead to thoughts of suicide (especially if untreated). Also, symptoms may include fatigue, loss of appetite (change in eating patterns), headaches, stomach, neglecting responsibilities, irritable, apathetic, and questioning one's own religious belief.

The potential causes of depression are many or triggered by one event (or thing), which includes a broken up relationship, lost job, a loved one or pet died and not being accepted to higher level of professional education or school. Also, many medical conditions, hereditary or an illness can lead to depression including: Heart disease, stroke, HIV/AIDS, Parkinson's disease and diabetes. Taking alcohol and drugs can make depression worse. Depression lowers the level of neurotransmitters (chemicals that carry signals through the nervous systems) in the brain, which limits a person's ability to feel good.
