Television has been serving up some serious new drama this season. This was the year of the cliffhanger and the backwards and forwards time device. "Lost" on ABC (and its ratings and fans base) has been signatory in its effect on other networks in bringing forward other shows that use the same model of serious imaginative drama with twists and turns.

The year of 2006 will go down as the Year That Drama Roared. Amidst the glut of reality shows and new comedies, network television showed its development muscle into getting shows on the air that kept viewers hooked and interested. But not all of them will last into 2007.

1. Lost

Lost continues to hold fans fast, concluding its first part of Season 3 with Kate and Sawyer ...er.....shaking hands. Jack has been ambushed by the Others into performing surgery on the leader, but has used his wiles even under capture to free Kate, who at that very moment is watching Sawyer being put to death.

Oh, and the folks back at the beach are holding up too. Locke has weird visions, Desmond can see the future,. Mr. Ecko has been killed by the smoke monster, and yet another watcher from a screen console with a mask has been seen from the video monitors of the Question Mark hatch.

2. Survivor Cook Islands

As the Twelfth Survivor draws to its Series Finale in December, watchers at home have become divided. Will the Aitu 4 survive to the Final Four? Will Ozzy join the Raros? Will Yul Kwan deliver on his promise to use the Immunity idol to get to the Final Two?

Applications for Survivor Thirteen are now being accepted. Instructions can be found at Cbs.com. The Cook islands Finale will have a Final Five immediately followed by a reunion show. The winner of the Dodge car for most strategic player will also be announced.

The current front runners for the car are Sekou, (for picking Jonathan to go to Exile island for stealing the chicken), Yul for controlling the Aitus through finding and holding the immunity Idol, and Candice for jumping off the Aitu mat and doing the mutiny.

Takeaways
  • Will Pam in "The Office" really get dragged to the altar with her mensch of a boyfriend, despite memories of Jim?
  • "30 Rock" is hilarious because it presents the humor "Saturday Night Live" is supposed to.
  • The year of 2006 will go down as the Year That Drama Roared
Did You Know?
James Woods does an excellent job of convincing us that only a debatably moral human being could successfully prosecute cases in the Los Angeles court system.

I thought The Office was a comedy???? I haven't seen it so I could be wrong. Otherwise, pretty good list.
