How to Safely Make or Purchase Gel Candles

Gel candles are all the rave in candles with the ease of finding that perfect candle that fits into a certain theme in your home or because of the flexibility of creating many different and unique ideas. Bit there is one huge problem with gel candles. Many people enjoy making them but they do not bother to research the proper way to make them. The gel candle increases the dangers of fire if not properly made.

While many candle makers will try their hand at gel candles without the proper research they could eventually be selling you more then you bargained for. When making or purchasing gel candles you will want to look at the candle and make sure that the area that will be wicked is separate from the gel candle alone. The way to check to make sure this is how the candle is made. Simply look at the top of the candle and see if there is a small tea-light candle embedded into the gel candle or if there is a small glass cup inside the candle that is separate from the main candle.(More commonly referred to as a forever candle) When your gel candle is made with a separate candle for lighting you are ensuring the items in your gel candle will not come into contact with your flame preventing these items from catching on fire.

Inexperienced gel candle makers have a habit of placing the wick throughout the gel candle and placing there decorative themed items around the wick. As the candle burns down and these items are exposed to the wick they can ignite causing the candle to become to hot and to explode. If you notice the gel candle you are about to purchase has a wick running throughout the entire candle or the wick is placed near the decorative items in the candle you may want to pass on this purchase.
