Discerning God's Will: A Sermon Based on Acts Chapter 1 Verses 12-26

A Love Works Daily Commentary

As many of you know, Tonya and I spent the last week (July 2007) in Newberg at George Fox University celebrating, worshiping, doing business and learning with fellow pastors, ministers, missionaries, congregational members, church leaders & their families at the Northwest Yearly Meeting of Friends and we returned on Friday evening.

We missed you all last week, but we had an extraordinary experience at the meeting and highly recommend it for anyone interested in the culture and history of the Friends Church in the northwest, as well as around the world. Friends consider all people, by mandate of Jesus' Great Commission, to have a call to ministry to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ to all the world, each in his or her own unique way.

So I thought I would start with a brief summary of our week and it's themes and high points.

The main theme of the week was "Go Light Your World". There are numerous biblical mentions of people being Lights in the darkness, and much of the time was spent talking about that.

Each day a person is presented with choices and challenges
God has set specific guidelines. Here is a comprehensive guide to what God has to say about sex related topics from marriage and monogamy to homosexuality to fetishes.
The Puritans of the Plymouth and Massachusetts Bay colonies saw the covenant as a mutual agreement under the watchful eye of God to fulfill God's will in establishing a civil society that would serve as a model of virtue for the rest of the world.
I've often wondered, "Just how lenient or how strict is God going to be on judgment day?" I'm sure I'm not the only one who's pondered this question. And I'm sure people's answers range just as wide.
This is a question which has vexed man for an eternity. Although, some men have found the answer, to some Christians it is still a point of contention.
