George Harrison and Patti Boyd: The Greatest Love Story that Almost was

Two Talented Musicians and One Beautiful Woman

Two talented musicians and one beautiful woman. The greatest love story that almost was began in 1964 when a young George Harrison, one of the members of the world's most popular music group at the time (and probably, of all times) met a lovely little model named Patti Boyd on the set of
 "A Hard Day's Night."

Instantly smitten with her beauty, he did what any normal 21 year old guy with the world at his feet would have done. He tried to get her to go into his trailer for sex. But Patti Boyd was no ordinary groupie. She was a nice girl. She declined his proposition.

Probably miffed at not being treated like a living God, George Harrison was intrigued by this sweet little 19 year old girl. So the next day, as the story goes, he asked her out. For a proper date. Not a romp in his trailer, but a dinner date. But again Pattie surprised him. She said "no." She had a boyfriend and didn't want to cheat on him.

Not used to being turned down by women at this point in his life, Harrison became bound and determined to win Patti to him. This was a man who practiced the guitar until his fingers bled; by all accounts, he was one persistent dude. So instead of cutting his losses, he again asked Patti out for a date. In this day and age, this might have amounted to stalking. But this was 1964 and things were different then. And Patti Boyd, although hooked up with another guy, couldn't help but being flattered that one of the most popular young men in the world was pursuing her. So she conceded to a date.

And she was no dummy, this girl who inspired so many beautiful love songs. It is said she captured George Harrison's heart almost immediately. Within a week, she had met his parents, introduced him to her mother and was out house hunting with him. They would have married; but this was the height of the Beatle's popularity and another married Beatle might have had a negative impact on their careers. So they simply lived together. They didn't get married until after the touring stopped, in 1966.

Well, there may be multiple errors (factual, spelling and grammatical) in this article, but I came here to discover how it was that Mick Fleetwood and George Harrison were brothers-in-law. Thanks to this article (or comments of other visitors), I now know that they were married to the Boyd sisters.

"The Harrison marriage broke up shortly after the breakup of the Beatles" - They Beatles broke up in the Autumn of 1969. Patie & George split in the winter of 1973/74. I don't think you could say 4+ years was "shortly after" the Beatles' split.

Your critics have nailed you, your prose is immature and poorly written and inaccurate. Take a writting course please before you write anymore on a substatial subject like a biography or whatever you call this sorry crap. Do yourself and others a favor. Please...'There are many, many different stories to this story...?' Stop please.

One other factual error: The comment from George about swapping Pattie for Clapton's date actually came when Clapton admitted that he was in love with Pattie - long after they'd been going around behind George's back. And, no, I don't know them. But this story is in wide circulation - your entry is the only one that has a different version.

Pattie and Rod Weston (her partner for the past 14 years) broke up several months ago.

She never had an affair with Mick Fleetwood. Jenny, her sister was maried to him!

Nice story - but full of factual errors. She spells her name Pattie, not "Patti" (sic). Pattie Boyd and George Harrison were married January 21, 1966 - several months before the Beatles last tour ended on August 29, 1966. Pattie did not give up her modeling career after she married - but she did cut back to part time. Her career peaked in 1969 when she appeared on the covers of three issues of British Vogue. George did not sell their home Kinfauns behind Pattie's back - they searched for a new property for nearly a year before finding Friar Park, which they both saw together and agreed on. Pattie and Eric Clapton have both spoken in interviews of the affair they had in 1970 which Pattie broke off resulting in Eric writing Layla about her. Pattie and George were divorced in 1977 before George and Olivia had their son in 1978 and then married. Pattie has previously refused to write a tell-all, but it was announced this year that she has signed a book deal to write her memiors due for pub
