"What's the difference between a soccer mom and a pit bull?" "Lipstick!" And so, after accepting the vice-presidential nomination and resulting ovations, Sarah Palin's acceptance speech got off to a rip-roaring start.

Palin took the stage at the republican convention with a speech and presence no one could dislike, even if you disagree with republican philosophy.

At first I paid a lot of attention to her family. I was particularly amused by the "deer in the headlights" looks on her parents' and family's faces, save for the youngest daughter who evidently is a VP-in-waiting, instructing the other daughters to "stand up" when they were mentioned. There was the hunky blue-collar dad, holding the baby, and the son in the military who will be shipped overseas next week, on September 11th (what MORE could McCain have asked for), who seemed to be amused by it all as well. I did feel for the boyfriend of the pregnant daughter. He looked like they dragged him to the barber shop, bought him a new suit and told him to stand up straight and behave. The daughter looked none too happy either. They are a real American family, no doubt about that.

Unfortunately I heard not word one about health care and displaced workers, or workers who have had their wages slashed or making higher education more affordable. She did mention creating jobs for Americans, but in the same breath chided Obama's plans to raise tariffs and taxes on business who leave the country. She wants the new oil and clean coal businesses to hire American workers, but not word one about immigration and illegal workers. Obama didn't mention them either, it's like all of a sudden they don't exist.

She also misstated Obama's plans to raise taxes on business -- I understood he did not plan to raise taxes on small businesses and family-owned farms and businesses. His main tax increase would be on corporations and the extremely wealthy.

One thing I want to mention: I am so glad that McCain, being the nice and honorable man he is, is still very grateful that she ran with him.

Nice article, I agree with your viewpoint. Ms. Palin fits in well with the same old Republican politics. I can't wait to how the ethics charges turn out.

It would help if someone got rid of inflation, it's inflation that's the real culprit, the one that ate up the retirement pensions so that the 100$ you saved will now buy only 10 cents worth of groceries.

As alwasy, enjoy your posts and comments but just had to mention: ". . . . I was reminded that a town of 9,000 is smaller than the neighborhood in Philadelphia in which I live . . ." and from a state with a population half that of the City of Philadelphia . . . but then, whose counting?

Great article! I agree, the issues that are important to most Americans aren't even mentioned anymore. It seems to be a big popularity contest with no focus on what's going to be done for the people.

Nice article.......

Agnes Farside is right; they all say "I got a plan", but nobody is willing to divulge these awesome plans until they get the White House. That makes me think their IS no plan! I like Palin better than anybody else in the fold, personally, although I do NOT agree with her on every issue. You did a great job in pointing out some glaringly absent issues she has yet to address in this campaign. However, if ANY of them promise to amke everything safe and perfect forever, I take it with a grain of salt myself, no matter who is doing the promising!
