Yoga Gear for Children

Yoga is a great form of exercise for every age, and it is a great way for young children to improve their flexibility, coordination and balance. The following yoga gear is made with young children in mind and enhances their yoga workout.

Mats

The Scooby-Doo Yoga Mats are fun and bright for kids. The poster that comes with the mat is great to hang on the wall wherever you plan on having your workout because it has 8 poses illustrated.

Another neat yoga mat I found was Wai Lana's Little Yogis Mat that has different poses illustrated right on the mat. I like this mat because it is washable and light enough for your little one to carry around themselves.

DVDs and Books

Yoga For Children is a great book for all ages because it is illustrated and comes with step-by-step instructions for poses, tips to help engage your child and how to keep their attention.

For the youngest settry Itsy Bitsy Yoga, by Helen Garabedian which focuses on learning poses to improve overall health.

The most comprehensive guide out there though for parents would have to be The Complete Idiot's Guide To Yoga With Kids. In addition to the instructions for 75 poses this book includes everything you need to know about yoga that you already did not and how to help your child get the most out of his/her workout.

With Wai Lana's Little Yoga DVD you will not need to encourage the kids to exercise, they will have so much fun following along and look forward to the workout.

Clothing

For tops that kids who enjoy Yoga can wear try CafePress, there are some stores with some really cute designs available for all age levels. My favorite is Art of Yoga, a store with several different designs for baby, boys and girls with fun graphics.
