Sarah Palin's much-anticipated acceptance speech as John McCain's Vice Presidential candidate has come and gone. For now, it appears talk of Sarah Palin will be about her speech and not about her scandals, for at least one or two days. The Sarah Palin speech seems to be a hit with the Republican base, and will ensure that they defend Palin as more rumors and innuendo come out against her. For now, the video of Sarah Palin's entire speech is up on MSNBC for many to analyze, scrutinize and criticize. The transcript of the Sarah Palin speech is up, too, on the Huffington Post for many to look even closer at any flaws or missteps. The video of Sarah Palin's speech had the expected camera shots of Sarah Palin's family, and Bristol Palin's fiancee, watching with smiles on their faces.
As for the speech itself, Sarah Palin started with accepting the nomination, then promoting John McCain in advance of McCain's upcoming acceptance speech.
Commenting on McCain's slow start at the beginning of the primaries, Palin said "[But] the pollsters and pundits overlooked just one thing when they wrote him off. They overlooked the caliber of the man himself - the determination, resolve, and sheer guts of Senator John McCain. The voters knew better."
"Our nominee for president is a true profile in courage, and people like that are hard to come by," Palin said, as she went on to speak of McCain's service and the service of Palin's own son, Track, who will be deployed to Iraq on September 11'th.
Palin went on to talk about families with special needs, using her experiences with her youngest son Trig, who has Downs Syndrome- as many were reminded of when some bloggers tried to prove Trig was really Bristol Palin's son. Palin discussed her family life, then moved on to her experience in politics.
"I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a "community organizer," except that you have actual responsibilities," Palin said in a jab at Barack Obama. "We tend to prefer candidates who don't talk about us one way in Scranton and another way in San Francisco," she went on in a jab at both Obama and Joe Biden.
