I've heard that "diamonds are a girl's best friend", but since most of us can't afford all those diamonds, we girls resort to shoes instead. What woman doesn't adore shoes?

We all have an abundance of shoes in our wardrobe, but sometimes it is still hard to find "just the right shoe" to wear with an outfit.

Men don't understand how this can be. I think that is because they never have to worry about the length of their trousers in relation to their shoe style, like we do. Men's pants are based on the length of their inseam, period.

Women have so many lengths of dresses, skirts, jeans, and trousers, that we must be careful about choosing just the right shoe to go with our clothing. There are so many styles of shoes from which to choose and a multitude of colors as well.

Heel heights range from flats, kitten heels, high heels, to stilettos. Styles range from sandals, espadrilles, mules, oxfords, open toes, slingbacks, Mary Janes, platforms, the list goes on and on and on.

The choice of shoe style and heel height should always be determined by the style and length of our clothing. You would not wear a heavy oxford style shoe with a short dress or skirt. The focus would be on the heaviness of the foot instead of the shapeliness of the body. With a shorter dress or skirt, a low heeled shoe or a kitten heel would look much nicer and would also help to elongate the appearance of the legs. A very high heel worn with a shorter skirt or dress would create an imbalance in the outfit and also might create an image that most of us would not want.

In today's more casual society, women are often opting for more comfortable shoes instead of the shoes that cause foot pain and malformation of the toes. However, there is a shoe company that has designed a high-heeled shoe that accommodates our toes very nicely and is said to be quite comfortable. These shoes are made by Cole Haan. This company offers the Sierra Air Pump with Nike Air cushioning, and the Penny Air Loafer, just to name a few. Of course, they are quite expensive, but still not as costly as diamonds.

True confessions...I bought a pair of high-heeled shoes once. From a charity store. For a costume party. I went as, you know, Julia Roberts' best-known movie role before Erin Brockovitch. Other than that I've been able to stick to shoes that feel good on my feet.

good writing, my friend! i'm a shoe collector. but--i wear my sneakers just about everywhere. (my orthotics fit best, in those.) that's the trouble with dress shoes--a person like me, with foot problems, can't wear their orthotics in dress shoes.

I, too, love shoes. My name is jcorn and I am a shoe addict.There...I feel so much better :) and, actually, I don't have all that many. Only 2 pairs of athletic shoes. That isn't so bad, is it? However, I have many different types of other shoes.

Not all women have an abundance of shoes, I was always a two pair girl, one for slooping around in and one for dress up. Shoes are expensive I could never afford them.

I can't wear heels anymore and I hate that.

Gosh, I wish I was tall...I am a shrimp. I love shoes...it is inherent!

Being 5"10" tall, I try to avoid wearing heels! But really it's not the height that bothers me, but the way my poor feet feel in them. I don't know how some women can wear those things all day. But I do love my (flat) sandals, they are usually in the majority in my shoe wardrobe.
