I was born in 1955, so I have been fortunate enough to have experienced the changes that took place in America once the doe-eyed dreamers of the early 50's began to realize that Ward and June Cleaver were a fantasy and that Eddie Haskell was probably more realistic than any other character on Leave it To Beaver, and that politics was a dirty game.

Being a native Texan, I carry the shame of the fatal death of president John F. Kennedy in Dallas in my heart. I believe that was the biggest turning point for me, especially when it was followed by the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr, and then Robert F. Kennedy. I was a love child, believing in peace, an optimist who up until these great men were silenced so violently, had great hopes for my own future and the future of my nation. With those deaths also came the death of my trust in politics and government. Although I don't consider myself a conspiracy theorist, from that point on I have suspected that government has their fingers in pies that they have no business being involved in. I view most politicians as opportunist and am thoroughly convinced that money drives the political machine. Power corrupts.

Don't get me wrong, I am not a far left flaming liberal. I understand that there need to be laws and rules to protect our citizens. Anything else would be anarchy. But I do not believe that government has the right to tell us who we can marry or that church and state should hold court in the same room, and I think that our presence in Iraq is a mistake. I have watched in horror as George W. Bush--who for the record is NOT from Texas, thank you very much--has blubbered through his excuses, trying to defend his decision to send our troops to Iraq, claiming there were weapons of mass destruction in their possesion and being made out a liar. I have never been able to understand to correlation between the bombing of the World Trade Center by Osama Bin Laden and his fanatics and Iraq. Bin Laden is in Afghanistan. Can you say geography lesson, George?

Takeaways
  • George Bush and the Weapons of Mass Destruction lie
  • The Assassination of JFK, MLK, and RFK
  • We need a Woman President
Did You Know?
Hillary Clinton is too ambition-driven
Joe Lieberman looks like a hopeful candidate

Very good points...I share your hope that we can turn the bush debacle into a hopeful future, if we work at it..I would like to see a woman President too, and if Hillary is it, so be it. I think the first woman may have to have her strong qualities to break through..
