The Giants sprinted onto their home field as World Champions and when the game started, they looked like the same team who took home the Lombardi Trophy less than a year ago. Their first drive ended with a touchdown - not only a touchdown but a touchdown scored by the running efforts of Eli Manning. Yes, it seemed like the magic was back, and every Giant fan seemed to know that this team was going to repeat their Cinderella year of 2007.

Alas, that was the only touchdown. It's true. The Giants won this game against the Redskins by a final score of 16-7, but they could only score field goals after the first impressive touchdown drive. While these field goals were enough to beat the Redskins who look like they may be the weakest team in the NFC East, they are not the type of scores that will get NY into the Super Bowl.

According to PossessionPoints.com, NY earned a high yellow 92 PossessionPoints which translates to a slightly above average performance. PossessionPoints are based on a number of factors including the length of a scoring drive, the number of points scored in that scoring drive and the quarter in which the points are scored. PossessionPoints.com uses colors to translate a team's performance level. Green means a great performance; yellow equals a so-so performance; and red translates into disaster. The Redskins were mired in red in this season-opening performance. They earned a total of 14.3 PossessionPoints.

PossessionPoints.com projected that the Giants would win this game, and they also projected this type of performance. Are the Giants a good team? They will probably make the playoffs as a Wild Card, but PossessionPoints does not predict the Giants to win the division. Who will take that title?

Takeaways
  • Will the Giants repeat their Super Bowl run this year?
