50-Foot Spider Poised to Attack UK

Robotic Spider to Tour Landmarks

Understand that I normally wouldn't write on this. I'm too mature. However, the United Kingdom has been alive with spiders the last few days and yet they still seem to want more. In fact, they're building them.

Gizmodo and other sources are reporting that, believe it or not, a 50-foot spider exists and is poised to attack the

 UK.

As reported in the article "50-Foot Robot Spider Plans to Attack the UK on Friday," while currently dormant on the side of an office building, the massive arachnid is poised for a weekend of planned mayhem throughout the city at specific historic landmarks.

All of this has come on the heels of two "spidery" encounters in Great Britain. I written both on Associated Content: "Banana Spider, World's Most Venomous Animal, Terrifies British Clerk," and "Camel Spider Says Hello to British Family; They Say Goodbye."

The camel spider entered Great Britain in a soldier's bag; the soldier had been fighting in Afghanistan and the banana or wandering spider came in on, what else, bananas.

People love to be scared and nothing scares people like a spider; it is sure to cause a stir. Hollywood has known that for a long time.

There's the "Giant Spider Invasion" from 1975. There was the "50-Foot Spider" from the 1950's.

I recall seeing more recent movies that involved spiders like "Arachnids" and "Eight-Legged freaks."

The Hollywood method is to have a scary spider and then a lot of skimpily-clad girls joined by guys with moderately low I.Q.'s. This paves the way for the girls to parade around as eye candy while the idiotic guys tempt the given monster by routinely going places none of us would ever dream of going like coal mines, dark rooms and crop fields at night when 47 cows were lying dead on the ground. But if they didn't, no one would die.

Of course we all have had interactions with real spiders but that isn't as fun because then we see how intimidating they are.

The 50-foot spider of the UK will be stalking all weekend. Sometimes it just makes you wonder if people have too much free time.
