Subsonic Radio is a large and well-known Disney theme park radio station boasting an astounding number of tracks and a loyal group of listeners. Subsonic Radio offers tracks from Disneyland, Walt Disney World, Tokyo Disneyland, and Disneyland Paris. This includes attraction audio, shows, fireworks, nighttime spectaculars, resort hotel background music, holiday music, and much more! Subsonic Radio is a Shoutcast music station, which the founder preferred over Live365 because of the advertisements on Live365.

Subsonic Radio started with ten 56k streams and no website. But people were connecting and word was getting out about Subsonic Radio. A website was soon put up and all ten streams were full most of the time. A loyal Subsonic Radio listener offered some bandwidth to the radio station so that more streams could be added at a higher bit rate. The Subsonic Radio website has grown to include a forum, request system, multiple themes, scheduled and request streams, an IRC chat room, and multiple streams at different bit rates. Version 2.0 has just been released, sporting a new holiday theme, an upgraded request system, a new "treasures" feature, the ability to track user history, comments on tracks, and additional track information.

Subsonic Radio thrives on listener participation. Listeners can request tracks from Subsonic Radio's vast collection of theme park audio. This ability is based on a point system. Each track costs a certain number of points. Each user is granted a base number of points upon signing up, and more can be added by posting in the forums at a rate of ten points per post. Longer tracks cost more points. This is done to prevent users from clogging the channel with long tracks and to promote diversity amongst the tracks played. Points are regenerated twenty-four hours after they are used. With frequent posting on the forum, it is easy to collect enough points to request your favourite entrance loop or resort hotel background loop.

Takeaways
  • Subsonic Radio thrives on listener participation.
  • Subsonic Radio's vast library of theme park audio boasts 2,554 tracks at last count.
  • The forum at Subsonic Radio gives listeners a chance to connect and talk about Disney whilst collecting points to request their favourite tracks.
Did You Know?
Another feature of the IRC chat room are "Live DJ Chats" where the moderator will play songs on the request of users in the chat without having to use their points. These happen intermittently and will be announced on the site's main page.
