Elbridge Amos Stuart founded the Carnation Company in Kent, Washington in 1899. Legend has it that he took the name from a box of Carnation cigars sitting in a window at a shop in Seattle. The company's sole purpose was to create evaporated milk. Stuart designed the brightly color labels for his cases of evaporated milk before even deciding on the name for his company. Carnation was bought by Nestle, the world's largest food company, in 1985. Today, bread companies often add nonfat dry milk to their breads, as this improves the taste and enhances the nutritional value of the bread.
As for most people, Carnation Nonfat Dry Milk will always be used in the world of food and nothing else, but for some, this product greatly extends the kitchen. There are several amazing uses of this dried milk, but only a few people are taking advantage of them. You can use this product to:
Sooth poison ivy, sunburn, and insect bites by mixing ten ounces Carnation Nonfat Dry Milk and twenty-five ounces water in a quart container. Fill up the rest of the container by adding two tablespoons of salt and ice cubes. Apply the solution to the infected area with a cloth three to four times a day.
Clean plant leaves by mixing one and one-thirds cups of Carnation Nonfat Dry Milk with seven and three-quarters cups of water, and use a soft cloth to wipe the leaves clean.
Paint your house by mixing one and a half cups of Carnation Nonfat Dry Milk and one-half a cup of water until it's blended to match the consistency of a normal paint. To gain the desired color, blend in water-based color. You can even thin and thicken the paint by adding either more water (to thicken) or adding more water (to thin). When painting with this mixture, you should paint as you normally would let the first coat dry for 24 hours before adding a second coat, and allowing three days for drying before adding any more coats. This type of paint is said to be extremely durable. If you later decide to remove the milk paint, you should apply ammonia and wait four days for it to dry. Afterwards, you would apply bleach and strip it.
