I am delighted that so many restaurants are jumping aboard the "healthy" bandwagon; providing alternative menus for those of us who really want to change the way we eat. One such excellent example is TGI Friday's. I have always loved this restaurant. I find their menu both varied and innovative. Their atmosphere is fun and the service is nearly always exceptional. More than anything else, however, Friday's is known for its outstanding food, which always arrives piping hot and absolutely delicious.

TGI Friday's offers both Low Carb and Low Fat menu items. Their low carb fare includes:
  • Shrimp Key West; skewers of seasoned chargilled shrimp topped with a sparkling citrus splash and served with a side of vegetables for 12 net carbs.
  • Sizzling Chicken with Vegetables; a sizzling skillet of onions and peppers together with garlic-marinated chicken breasts over melted American and Mexican cheeses and served with a side of vegetables for 17 net carbs.
  • Classic Sirloin with Broccoli; a USDA choice 10 ounce 28-day-aged chargrilled top sirloin served with a side of broccoli for 6 net carbs.
  • New York Cheesecake; a reduced-carb version of the smooth and creamy classic with whipped cream and pecans for 8 net carbs.

Low fat items include:
  • Zen Chicken Pot Stickers; fire-grilled dumplings stuffed with minced chicken and vegetables sprinkled with Pico de gallo and served with a sweet and tangy Szechwan dipping sauce.
  • Santa Fe Chicken Salad; crisp romaine lettuce tossed in a spicy Chipolte Ranch dressing topped with grilled chicken, tomatoes, black bean, corn salsa and grilled onions.
  • Lo-Phat Chicken Salad; chilled sautéed chicken, fresh cabbage, red pepper and green onions tossed with low fat Cilantro Lime dressing.

The regular menu includes pasta, chicken, steak, brisket, pork, ribs, salmon, shrimp, tilapia (fish), burgers, sandwiches, soups, salads, and desserts.

Takeaways
  • TGI Friday's offers both low carb and low fat items on their innovative menu.
  • Many entree portions are large enough to be split between two people.
  • Steak, chicken, pork, seafood, salads, sandwiches, soups, and desserts: TGI Friday's offers them all.

On 9-21-08 I took my husband to the Mentor, ohio TI--We both ordered potato skins--I eat there about 2 times a month with friends. Last night $24.70 later] they were reallt bad. I get them all the time but last night was terrible. They were cool, real dry, very little cheese that was also dried and hard bacon bits. I never had them like that before, I told our server and got a "oh well" and nothing more. I would like the address and I can send a letter if needed--Thank You Patti Mc colloch P O Box 70 perry, ohio 44081.

I won't be going back to Fridays again - the place is nice, but their business practices are very deceptive. They emailed a $5 off of 15 coupon with a link 'send this email to a friend and get 2,0087 goldpoints' (their frequent diner program). Turns out you have to send it to a friend, print a coupon, go to the restaurant and have a meal there before they give you the 2,008 points. That's very deceptive. The coupon DOESN'T even say a purchase is necessary. I was driving by a Fridays and the manager turned me a way from just getting the points because I wasn't eating there. And their corporate office stands by the policy that you have ot get a meal... even though the coupon doesn't say anything about it. Houlihans anyone?

TGIF discriminates. I will never eat there again. We went there for a late lunch (Dec. 28, 2006, Thursday, around 2 pm, TGIF on Crown Valley, Laguna Niguel, California) and were seated after a few minutes wait. Then began the nightmare. We waited for 30 minutes without being approached even by a waiter/waitress, while people arriving after us were served immediately. A couple of other guests seeing us ignored told their waitress but she couldn't be bothered. And so we continued to wait. Until we got tired. We left without being served. We told the hostess our story but it was clear that like the waitress she couldn't be bothered either. If this is how they're front staff is I shudder to think about their quality of service in the kitchen and what they really are putting in that food! P.S. We're of Indian (sub-continent India) origin. Also, If I'd known about this - that they'd found a finger in TGIF food served to the guests - I'd never have gone there in the first place!

You should preface this article with "Eat Before You Read" or "Warning - some content may be fattening without actual consumption!" Great review!
