Alternative medicine is not something new. It has been around since the beginning of time, long before doctors, pharmaceutical companies, and over the counter pills. It has been passed down proudly through generations. There are numerous books on the market that tell folks how to treat their illnesses or aches and pains. In my opinion the books I've listed below (in descending order) are the top ten books for people interested in various methods of alternative medicine.

10. "Prescription Alternatives, Third Edition: Hundreds of Safe, Natural Prescription-Free Remedies to Restore and Maintain Your Health", by Earl Mindell and Virginia Hopkins gives a great overview of overused prescribed drugs. The language used is easy to understand and the reader comes away with an excellent alternative to which drugs are overly prescribed and how to use other methods of healing. This book was published in 2003 and sells for $19.95 at www.barnesandnoble.com .

9. "Mayo Clinic Book of Alternative Medicine: The New Approach to Using the Best of Natural Therapies and Conventional Medicine" by the Mayo Clinic covers a wide range of alternative medicine approaches from acupuncture and reiki to herbal healing. It is rather simplistic in its writing however, often making the reader (at least in my case) feel as though they were being talked down to. I still liked the book however because the information was good. This book was published in 2007 and sells for $24.95 at www.barnesandnoble.com.

8. "Alternative Medicine"by Claire Wallerstein is a power packed 56 pages of information on what alternative medicine really is. It doesn't list a lot of specifics; however it is a great book for beginners that don't know much about alternative methods of healing. This book was published in 2003 and sells for $32.86 at www.barnesandnoble.com .

Takeaways
  • There are many alternative medicine routes to choose from.
  • One need to be fully informed before making a decision to go the alternative medicine route.
  • There are 1000's of books on the market that deal with alternative medicine.

Don't forget "Tired, So Tired and the Yeast Connection" by Dr. William Crook. It's an oldie but a goodie.
