PPC advertising is the much blown up and misrepresented form of online website promotion that has emptied the wallets of many unwary advertisers, and made the few odd ones rich. While many people are given the impression that PPC advertising works great for everyone, this is simply not true. In fact, many of the PPC advertising campaigns are an absolute joke, and there are much better ways of promoting a site than PPC advertising . So why do I dislike PPC advertising as much as I do?

It's completely misrepresented - I've never been in loss using PPC advertising , but I know many people who have consistently lost. You need a pretty big advertising budget to analyze different campaigns and see which one works. Most books that teach you (such as Adwords Miracle, Google cash, and some others) about PPC advertising, fail to mention that you will probably end up losing a few hundred dollars before you find a campaign that will make you more than a 100% profit on any of them .

It's unpredictable - Most of the PPC advertising books were found wanting when Google announced the massive changes in ts PPC services. It's impossible to predict exactly how different campaigns will play out, and how much you'll lose, and occasionally gain. And even if you find some good campaigns that are making you profit, it's very hard to figure out when they'll suddenly die because of one small change. It's much harder than they'll tell you - Do you have any idea as to how much time and effort it takes to maintain 5-6 profitable campaigns. While many people advertise their PPC advertising programs by saying that this is the easiest money ever, that is simply not true. The energy spent on maintaining and managing PPC advertising is astronomical!

Takeaways
  • It's completely misrepresented
  • It's unpredictable
  • It's much harder than they'll tell you

You've made some good points...like NEVER pay those outrageous fees for Ebooks, there's no need because all the info you need is available for free if you know how to research in forums, blogs and various other places online. I've never tried PPC and I agree it's not for everyone, but small affilate advertisers can make good money using it. I know people who do it all the time. Niche marketing is important in PPC. Small advertisers can't compete without a huge ad budget in the most popular categories, but finding smaller niche, very targeted products that are cheaper per click, and targetng using keywords with less competition you can make some good money.

I totally agree. For a large, established business with a marketing budget and a very high page rank in Google, using PPC advertising on Google's Adsense might be worth it, but for the average small-time marketer, your points are VERY true. Good information.
