Homemade Halloween Costume Ideas for Women
Halloween isn't just for kids anymore. Adults are joining the scene. Whether you're attending a hot Halloween party or taking the kids around the block, you'll want a costume that will turn heads. These women's costumes are very popular and sure to please.
Homemade Fairy Halloween Costume
First, look in your closet to see what dresses you have. Preferably the dress should be frilly and pink. If you don't have anything which will fit the bill, look at your local thrift store for second hand dresses. Look specifically for chiffon and lace. Vintage
clothing is an excellent choice for the fairy costume, as well.
If you're in a hurry, you can make some simple wings out of cardboard for your homemade costume. Simply cut out the cardboard in the shape of butterfly wings and glue on some white paper with craft glue. Then draw on any colorful designs you would like to have. Make sure they match your outfit. For gossamer wings, bend a coat hanger into a butterfly wing shape. Then sew on some sheer fabric or attach a pair of panty hose. Decorate with glitter and fabric paints.
To make a wand, cut two stars from a piece of corrugated cardboard. Attach them to a dowel using hot glue. Paint the wand with glitter glue or metallic craft paints. Attach some elastic straps to hold them on at the shoulder.
Braid your hair and pin it up on your head. Then insert flowers, either fresh, dried or artificial, into various points around the braid.
Homemade Princess Halloween Costume
Making a princess costume is similar to making a fairy costume. You'll want to use a fancy dress as the base. However, for the princess you'll probably want to have a longer skirt. However, make sure the skirt isn't so long that you can't show off your slippers.
Go over an old pair of pumps with glue. Sprinkle silver glitter on them and shake off the excess.
Twist some metallic chenille stems into loops to make a tiara. Or if you're in the mood to make something more elaborate, try stringing beads on some wire.
