Review of Dove Ice Cream Chocolate Cherry Courtship

A longtime Dove chocolate fan, I was thrilled to see pints of Dove brand ice cream in my grocer's freezer. The new release of ice cream is definitely priced and marketed as a premium ice cream brand. After tasting the Dove Ice Cream Chocolate Cherry Courtship, I highly recommend the product, but only for die-hard chocolate fans.

Taste

Every tub of Dove ice cream is sealed with a half inch thick layer of chocolate ganache imprinted with the Dove logo. After cracking through this chocolate seal, you find rich, creamy cherry ice cream with chunks of dark cherries and more chunks of Dove chocolate. The ganache is pure Dove all the way - silky and creamy ganache with the classic Dove chocolate taste.

The ice cream is not as creamy or flavorful as Ben and Jerry's and other premium brands, but the added ingredients make up for any taste loss. The cherries are halved and still in large pieces with bursts of fresh flavor. The chocolate, combined with the ganache, is almost too much. Real chocolate lovers will be thrilled with the amount of quality chocolate including in the ice cream but it may be too rich for average snackers.

Nutritional Information

Dove is definitely not ice cream for the weight conscious. Each half cup serving has 270 calories and 15 grams of fat (11 saturated and zero trans fat). It does have 10 percent of the recommended calcium allowance and eight percent of Vitamin A, but that is hardly enough to counteract the calorie fest. Hopefully, Dove will release lighter, low-fat versions of this tasty treat soon.

For true Dove fans and chocoholics, Dove ice cream in the Chocolate Cherry Courtship variety is a winner. Otherwise, the rich ice cream is overly decadent. Only small portions are advised for the untrained chocolate eater.
