2008 MTV Video Music Awards: A Celebration of Britney Spears, Rihanna, Little Wayne and God

The 2008 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) was a celebration of Britney Spears, Rihanna, Little Wayne and God. It seems like a thread of these artists ran ramped throughout the entire show. This year though, they along with the artists brought their "A" game. The only real flub occurred when

host Russell Brand criticized the Jonas Brothers for wearing virginity rings. After a stern reprimand from American Idol winner Jordin Sparks, he recanted his earlier jokes. (For all of you who watch the news, be ready for a week long discussion about this event and the topic of teen sex.) Below is a look at the four main attractions of the show:

Britney Spears finally took home her first moon man. As a matter of fact, she won three MTV Video Music Awards for Best Female Video, Best Pop Video and Best Video of the Year. Considering the crushing reviews of her live performance last year at the VMAs, this was a surprise. Even Britney was taken aback. However, this blond bombshell was gracious and thankful, especially to God. She managed to thank him in through her acceptance of her awards. So, it looks like this diva is rising to the top again. She's turning back into the old Britney we all know and love.

Rihanna opened the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) with a performance of her song "Disturbia." Her performance was reminiscent of the dance routine akin to Michael Jackson's "Thriller". Dressed in all black and leather, she sang her song while a group of dancers worked the floor and stage. Then, later, she showed up again to do a duet with rapper T.I. It is now apparent that Rihanna is a fashion icon and driving force in the music world. She got the crowd riled up and even elicited praise from gossip mogul Perez Hilton.

Glad to see the update. I wonder how Brittney made such an impact considering her relative obscurity in the last year when it comes to performances. Fascinating!

Russell Brand is a popular celebrity from the U.K. I think it was hard for him to translate his humor into something that Americans would laugh at. He didn't do terribly bad. I just imagined what it would be like for me to write in another language and get my point across.

Nice review of the VMA's. I was happy to see Britney win, but thought it was more of a sympathy award than anything else. I wasn't really impressed with the site of Paramount Studios, the theater looked a bit cheesy, and could have done without Russell Brand. Who is he anyways????
