It's the "true meaning of Christmas," and everyone should be asking themselves what that really is. Are we following a recipe for disaster in our lives or are we positively contributing to society? The true meaning of Christmas is definitely a personal question, one that each individual must answer for himself.

What is this time of year supposed to be about? Should we be thinking of only ourselves? Is this the time of year to be selfish? When is the last time you did something for someone else? It doesn't matter how old you are, where you live, or how much money you make, Christmas is a time for giving.

People give each other the newest little gadgets, the best toys, the nicest clothes and some simply give money. These are all nice gifts, but where's the love?

Husbands and wives need it, children need it, grandparents need it, friends need it, everyone needs it, so why not give more of it? The old saying "Love doesn't cost a thing," is more apparent than ever.

You might be wondering, what could I do on a tight budget? Let me say this again, "you don't have to spend money!" Giving of yourself, your time, is enough. You might be thinking, "yeah right," or "get real," but this type of giving truly makes a difference. Giving is most important this time of year, but don't forget the needs that can be met all year round. There are people in this world with needs as simple as lending an ear or listening.

There might be a poorer family at the end of the block with oodles of children, how much do you think those parents are going to be able to give? Maybe you have some used toys that aren't being used anymore. Are you getting the idea? Giving doesn't have to cost a dime! As society focuses more and more on consuming the latest trends, people tend to forget that we are all a part of this society. We all need to know we are loved and cared about. This time of year makes a lot of people sad, reach out to these people, you could be saving a life. That is no joke. Christmas time has the highest suicde rates of any other time of year.
