Even though the Soyjoy commercials are obnoxious, I was intrigued by the mango coconut flavor of Soyjoy's fruit and soy bars. I tried a box at a sale price, but I was skeptical. I do like healthy foods, but I am extremely picky about taste. Nutri-Grain bars and Nature's Valley bars do not meet my cut. Judging by the images on the commercial I expected Soyjoy's fruit and soy bars to be in a similar taste range.

However, at $3 box for seven bars (again, sale price) and a unique mango coconut flavor, I gave the Soyjoy brand a try.

Taste

The base is a dense bar more similar to a whole-grain cookie than a granola-type bar. The coconut pieces break up the dense soy cookie texture and the mango flavor is bold. Normally, a dense whole-grain cookie is not something I will finish, but the Soyjoy fruit and soy bars are skinnier and easier to eat. I was able to enjoy the entire bar instead of getting bored or choked half-way through.

The flavor combination of coconut and mango is my favorite part. I would probably not enjoy the other varieties, which include more traditional health bar flavors. Mango and coconut are rare flavors in any snack food and even more rare to find well done. The Soyjoy bars contain dried pieces of mango and pineapple which give the bars a natural, fresh flavor. The dried coconut scattered throughout the bars is especially bold and sweet.

Nutritional Information

Each bar contains 140 calories and six grams of fat (only half of which are saturated fat and none is trans fat). Each 30 gram bar is also packed with four grams of protein, three grams of fiber, 230 mg of potassium and six percent of your daily dose of Vitamin C. Small amounts of calcium, iron and Vitamin A are also present.

The most important health benefit is the eight grams of whole soy in each bar. The Soyjoy company uses non-genetically modified whole soybeans and grinds the entire soybean to maintain the high fiber and soy proteins found in soybeans. Soy proteins are complete proteins which means they maintain all the amino acids your body needs.
