With the release of the final look for the new Chevy Volt coming at the end of the month, General Motors has released pictures of what the hybrid car will look like. It could be a good public relations move with the intent to seem like the pictures were being leaked or mis-published, or this could be an attempt by General Motors to create a buzz around the new Chevrolet Volt, which is set to begin production in 2010. The car is intended to usher in a new era of car manufacturing, and truly present an option designed to save consumers from the ever-rising problems of high gas prices. The Chevy Volt will be a car that runs off of electricity for a short-while, taking advantage of a lithium-ion battery pack to help conserve gasoline. The car will be able to go 40 miles off of one charge of the battery, and when the power on the battery pack runs low, the gas engine will kick in to power a generator that will recharge the battery. This unique way of using the gasoline to re-power the battery after those 40 miles will allow the battery to then kick back in at full power, and really cut down on the amount of gasoline the Volt will use on an excursion. The huge benefit to the car, is that most people commute much less than 40 miles between home and work, and may never even have to use the gas powered feature. By re-charging the car nightly, the Chevy Volt will be able to provide an almost entirely electric vehicle.
