Best Diet Plan: 1,000 Calories a Day

Experimenting with diet plans can be very interesting. There's the low carb, uncooked, grape fruit, etc. diet plans out there. While they all seem to appear like they could work, it's difficult to keep a diet
schedule that is so out of line with your normal everyday life. Where can you find time to pick up a grape fruit, peel it and enjoy in between work and soccer pick-up obligations? How will you cook pasta for your family, when you aren't allowed any carbs? Wheat pasta? What about their favorite garlic bread that always comes with the pasta? These are all very good questions, and while most people beginning a new diet plan, have an optimistic and idealistic attitude towards their new diet, it will only be so long before they cave in and start eating like a normal person.

This is why I suggest, the 1,000 calorie a day diet plan. That is about half the amount of calories that are considered normal in a full day. So, that number should be adjusted depending upon your normal calorie intake. If you normally eat about 3,000 calories a day, cut that down to 1,500. If you normally eat about 1,500 calories a day, well you shouldn't need to lose weight if you're only eating 1,500 calories a day, cut that down to 1,000. I wouldn't recommend going any lower than that, as you need to have some energy to burn you through the day. The key to the 1,000 calorie a day diet, is sticking with it!

Every type of food that you eat, has a calorie count associated with it. Whether it's on the side of the box, or it's a piece of fruit and you can research it online. Just make sure you pour yourself the exact amount of serving required for the calorie amount you want to intake. I'm sure you can think of numerous ways to eat only 1,000 calories a day, but here is the plan that I followed, and had a great time doing it!

Here's the count of calories for some of the foods I ate during on day on the 1,000 calorie diet:

. . . continued, wish the box would let us know the maximum size post so we could edit. Any-hoo, people who have enough time to make weight-related barbs to the heavier-than-they-are either don't have enough to do or have a bigger problem than I do. Perhaps this makes them feel superior or something, like we are bit already painfully aware we're fat (like most of America). I think it's fine to suggest they go work on something they struggle with or would like to improve about themselves, perhaps starting with manners, tact and not hurting the feelings of others. So THERE!:) Thanks for letting me vent!!! Let's support each other positively. I'm still the same person, after all, no matter what I weigh, which is just a number for today.

After trying many other ways I am finally losing weight on 1000/calories a day. I was beginning to wonder if I could even lose weight anymore. When I was much younger I did 1000/calories a day to lose weight quickly, but now I find I need to do it to lose weight at all. Looks like I can lose about 2-3 lbs a week. I'm very heartened, thanks for the supportive posts! BTW I feel fine. I count calories using Sparkpeople tracking and make up my own rules like you Monkeyfeet. I try to get the most bang for my calories in nutritious and filling foods, but I like being able to eat anything. Sometimes after we try everything the "experts" recommend, we just need to go do what works for us! There's a movie coming out in July about a thin girl who comes back to life fat - Diva something - that should be required viewing for everyone who never had a weight problem. I am so tired of people being ugly to me about my weight that I have started replying to them accordingly. If they have enough

This is wild. I have been doing the 1000 calorie thing for about 2 and a half months now. I thought I was the only one doing this, since I made my own plan and rules as I went along. lol I guess I am not as original as I thought. Anyway, I eat a LOT and have lost 34lbs. so far. My trick is picking foods that are low in calories but fill you up. I don't waste any calories on drinks. I don't deny myself anything! If I want cake, I have a 100 calorie pack of mini cakes. If I really want chocolate, I have a 100 calorie chocolate bar. Sugar free jello, baby carrots, baby pickles, fruit all great snacks too. I even eat dessert every night! I just have a Skinny Cow ice cream or a Weight Watchers mini cake. Breakfast is always kept between 100-160 calories. I (generally) have 2 snacks a day that are always 100 calories or less. Lunch is always kept under 300 calories. Dinner is usually between 300-400 calories. And whatever calories I have left over I use on dessert! I also take a mul

If you aren't hungry, then the diet isn't working. There is no such thing as starvation mode either. It's a myth. Go read a medical text book or talk to an MD. D.O.'s might tell you otherwise, but they aren't real docs.

Cont...It worked for me, the extra calories I gained in college I lost pretty quickly doing 1000 cal. a day for a while. Anyway, Just wanted to say something about it, this is the first time I sat down and read all these comments.

Hello, I wrote this article almost 3 years ago, I am happy that it has worked for many people. I'm also really concerned with some of the comments. Obviously, I am not a professional, doctor or anything even close to that. I especially wasn't 3 years ago at 21 years old! First of all, I definitely did not stress the right foods, vegetables ,fiber, lean protein, fruits need to be integrated! Second of all, I don't know for sure, but this probably is not a long-term plan. Especially if you're of bigger stature. I am only 5'3'' and have a small frame, always have been small, I was about 100-105 lbs all through high school and ate whatever I wanted. But, if you're taller or bigger you may need more calories. Seriously, some of of these comments about trying to get down to 108 lbs, only eating 100 cal. in day or trying to lose weight when you're only 108 lbs already! That is crazy, I feel like I needed to be more thoughtful when I wrote this, I really just meant it as a success story. It wo

BTW, do I have to work out to keep losing the weight? I really dont like working out and my schedule is busy and hectic so by the time I get off work I just want to lay down on the couch and relax! Has anyone ever just tried this diet without exercise and came out successful by continuing to lose weight?

I have tried the 1000 calorie diet for about a week - a week and a half and lost 7 lbs! It has been difficult for me to keep the "1000 calories" throughout the day bc one or two of the days I go over that. But I still lost 7lbs. Im happy. I hope I will lose more because I need to!!! Im so afraid that I wont lose anymore and Im sticking to this diet because it has made me pick healthier choices and not over eat as I use to.
