WiFi Does Not Cause Cancer

WiFi Fear Mongering, and Why You Have Nothing to Worry About

One more crazy, tinfoil hat health concern has popped up, and with any luck, it'll be shattered before it gets any steam.

UK scientists have announced that there isn't any research to show that there's more danger from having a Wifi router in your home than from having a television-and no, that doesn't mean that televisions are radioactive. It means that we're safe from any boogy men hiding in our cable
 modems and laptop cards.

The controversy over Wifi has been raging for a while, pretty simply because people don't understand how the technology works and, as such, are extremely afraid of it. They concocted theories with no basis in scientific fact whatsoever claiming that WiFi was somehow going to give us all cancer, because, as everyone knows, energy moving throughout the air has that magical ability. That's why cell phones are so dangerous (they're not, by the way).

The United Kingdom and Canada went really nuts when the theories were proposed. Some schools even pulled their wireless networks over fears of Wi-Fi badness. They claimed that the effects of WiFi usage couldn't be seen yet, but, like second hand smoke, they were there (the jury's still out on the health effects of second hand smoke, by the way, though everyone can admit that it's annoying and concerns over smoke are far more valid, given that it's an actual carcinogen and definitely not healthy).

There's some pretty simple science to allay any fears you might have; WiFi energy emissions are much lower than a cell phone or TV, and any concerns in that respect are simply not valid. WiFi doesn't consist of laser beams shooting across your house; it operates in a controlled manner that's actually pretty weak compared to most household technology.

It's not unnatural that people would be wary of something that basically transmits massive quantities of information across the air, or that they'd associate large amounts of information with large amounts of power and therefore danger, but there's no risk of cancer or anything else from WiFi. Period.

k, i just love how much referencing you've done, you've clearly done your research. i agree with 'sc', you have no sources, you don't even quote other sources. It is pretty evident that, the rate of non benign cancers have soared coincidently at the same time as mobile phone usage has increased. This article looks like it was written for children, by children. I'm guessing you wrote this article to calm you self to make you self assured that you're okay and you're not going to get cancer. I went on the net to find if there actually was data out there that proved or disproved that wi-fi can give you cancer, though i wish your answer was correct, i feel you have just wasted my time.

Cigarettes give you cancer but we sell those in England!

Yeh, I generally agree with your view. I just think that perhaps more research is needed. The fact that we have mobile waves, wifi waves, televison waves, infra red waves and even micro waves going through all our bodies can't be healthy. But guess in general its in such small doses it does no harm. Not sure about the mobile though. I know that after talking on the mobile for any length of time my ears feel hot and it can't do my brain cells any good. But when will it be proved? Hope you are right. Would like to think that you are. Andy.

Personally, I would like much more research to be done. If wifi or cell phone use were proven to be harmful, there would be unending lawsuits galore. I do not understand the science quite yet behind wifi, but I'm operating on a few basic skeptical principles that demand more evidence for safety - that cellphone/wifi use can be just as acceptable as cigarettes were before everyone realized they weren't healthy, and that instant gratification hardly ever comes without problems. One definite possible point is that wifi is not environmentally friendly, as plugging in would save a lot of electricity. My vote is for erring on the side of caution, especially because wifi is unnecessary and we can all easily plug in or be simple and quiet.

Not all radiation is ionizing. Only ionizing radiation poses a risk of cancer.

wifi waves are a type of radiation of course is can cause cancer over prolonged periods of time

wow, i can't believe people are dumb enough to think it won't cause cancer considering all the studies that say it does. It's just like when cigarettes "didn't cause cancer" People laughed at that too.

They'll sell you something that would give you cancer, but it certainly can't give you cancer just because they sell it to you. They're not interested in you, but they are interested in keeping their business alive and making money, and that's not really possible if they were to find that wifi actually DOES give you cancer. Take off the tin foil hat and wash your mouth, jeff. You're an embarrassment to those of us out there who have the capability for rationale.
