Halloween is a great holiday that allows you to transform yourself into anything or anyone you want to be. Maybe you will decide to become the face on a milk carton, Brittany Spears in her head-shaving phase, or more a traditional costume such as a witch, pirate, or clown. Almost every costume will include make-up as a necessity. It is very important to protect your skin when using these heavy theatrical make-ups at Halloween. Before you paste on that rusty nail you have planned for your forehead this Halloween, here are some tips for taking care of your skin.

Begin by washing and drying your face using a good foaming or liquid cleanser. One good product is Oil of Olay Hydrate & Cleanse Micro-Bead Cleansing Serum. This cleans your skin without drying it out. Another good face is wash is Neutrogena One Step Gentle Cleanser, which is a cleanser that is also a make-up remover that is gentle on your skin. If you have very sensitive skin, Neutrogena has a wide range of products to try, and I would recommend them. It is a bad idea to use bar soap, or any other soap that can dry out your skin.

Use a primer on your skin before applying make-up or latex appliances. This will form a barrier between your skin and the oily make-up. It will protect your skin from over drying; help protect your pores from clogging; and make removal of latex appliances easier. It will also form a nice foundation for your make-up and give it a smooth surface to cling to. Photo Finish primer from Smashbox is a good line of products to try, also Fresh Start by Sorme will keep the skin protected and looking smooth as silk. If these types of products are not available to you, look in your medicine cabinet. Milk of Magnesia will also work rubbed on the skin as a good primer. Sounds weird, but it will work.

Be sure to use a good make-up removing cleanser when washing your face after your party. Neutrogena makes an excellent Make-up Remover Cleansing Towelette that you can use to remove your make-up without scrubbing your skin too hard. Scrubbing and rubbing your make-up off your face is the fast track to damaged skin.
