Governor Sarah Palin - First Woman Vice President?

Can a former hockey mom turned mayor turned governor become Vice President of the United States? Governor Sarah Palin was elected to two terms as a city councilwoman in her hometown of Wasila, Alaska. In 1996, she was elected Mayor of Wasila after beating a three-term incumbent in her quest for this seat. On December 4, 2006, she became the first woman governor of the state after defeating the incumbent governor in the Republican Primary and then a former Democratic governor in the general election. She currently has an 80% approval rating in Alaska.

Governor Palin was born in Sandpoint, Idaho before moving to Alaska with her parents and siblings. She graduated from Wasila High School; this small town is home to 5500 people and surrounded by beautiful mountain ranges. She was one of four children and would often go with her father at 3:00 A.M. on moose hunts; she is known to have shot caribou. Governor Palin attended Hawaii Pacific University for one semester before transferring to the University of Idaho where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications-Journalism.

As Governor, she visited the United States Army in Kuwait and went on to see injured soldiers in Germany. When asked about this, she said it was "the trip of a lifetime." She has worked on energy independence and recently told reporter Charles Gibson that "...energy is the foundation of national security." When talking about her possible election as Vice President, along with John McCain as President, Governor Palin said, "With new leadership comes opportunity...to do things better." She continued with determination in her voice saying, "We must not blink in making those tough decisions."
