Infamous director Uwe Boll directed the first two films and will be directing the third film.

The first film starred Terminator 3 star Kristanna Loken as Rayne. Due to scheduling conflicts she was replaced by Dead or Alive star Natassia Malthe for the first sequel. Malthe will not come back for the third film.

"No. It will be [Kristina] Loken or a new actress if Loken wants too much money" says Director Uwe Boll.

Production is supposed to start sometime this year, with a release next year. It will go Direct to DVD.

Uwe Boll is known for being unfairly hated upon by movie critics and video game fan boys but has grown a fan base known as the "Bolldogs".

He is also known for how he finances his films. He continues to find investors who want to grab the rights for video-game-to-movies. The investors are mostly German. He grabs the rights for future films, then does all the everything himself.

Films directed by Uwe Boll have performed poorly at the box office in the USA. House of the Dead only made $5.73 million on its opening weekend. Alone in the Dark only made a little over $5.1 million and BloodRayne only made $2.42 million.

Uwe Boll is able to find funding thanks to German tax laws that reward investments in feature films. The law allows the investors in German-owned movies to write off 100% of their investment as a tax deduction; it also allows the investors to invest borrowed money and write off any fees associated with the loan.
