Decorating Your Front Yard for Thanksgiving
Fall is Thanksgiving time and commemorates the sharing of knowledge, harvests and cultures between North America's early European settlers and Native American Indians. Here are some outdoor decorating ideas for Thanksgiving.
Idea Number One - Utilize as many decorations from Halloween for your Thanksgiving Decorations as possible. Things like orange and yellow lighting can even be left up and later added to
for the Christmas lighting season.
Idea Number Two - Pumpkins and Gourds that still hold their shape or artificial ones can certainly be used for Thanksgiving. A harvest theme is appropriate for Thanksgiving and any thing that comes from the earth is usable.
Idea Number Three - You can start the base of your Christmas wreath by making a Thanksgiving door decoration out of old wood. Later this can be used as the base for pin boughs to be woven around for the Christmas door decoration.
Idea Number Four - An old wagon or even a sleigh can be used to hold a harvest decoration center point. After Thanksgiving the same item becomes the center point for Santa and the gifts he will bring. For Thanksgiving if you can get your hands on part of a bale of hay put some stuffed animals in the hay to add reality to the display.
Idea Number Five - If you have an old well in your front yard that can be the focal point of your entire decoration plan. If you don't have an old well you can make it look like you do have by using blocks of Styrofoam for the rocks that make up the walls of the well.
Idea Number Five - Use solar powered outdoor lights to light up the front yard decoration at night time. The cover can be a light orange or yellow to add harvest atmosphere. These type lights are inexpensive and they require no wiring or power source. They will look from outside the yard like small rocks but facing the area to be lit will be a light with reflective cone shining in the direction you want highlighted.
Idea Number Six - Put out some potted flowers on the edges of your sidewalk leading up to the front entrance. Mums are the flowers of fall and alternating orange and white mums would be beautiful.
