I love old Family Photos. I hoard them year after year because I simply cannot part with them. I just hate seeing them sit unused though. This simple project is a great way to use those old Family Photos and decorate your tree or even a window frame for very little money.

This Christmas craft should take you about an hour and cost you less than $10. Even if you need to photocopy some extra Family Photos to make a really long garland you shouldn't have to spend too much money.

To Make a Christmas Tree Garland Made Out of Old Family Photos You Will Need:

Twine (I like to buy red or brown, but any color will work)

Large Sewing Needle (A Tapestry Needle Works Best)

Old Family Photos

Round paper hole protectors

The first step is to stack up all of your Family Photo. Go ahead and get them all face up in one big stack. Now, sit down to your favorite TV and start poking hole in the left and tight wide of your photo with your tapestry needle or hole punch. This hole should be centered top to bottom and only be in about ½ inch.

Now, take your hole protectors and attach them to the back of the photos around each hole. This will really help keep your pictures from ripping while you are hanging the family photo Christmas garland on the tree.

Now, Cut your twine into a bunch of 6 inch pieces. You could also use a pretty Christmas ribbon.

Now, thread one end of the ribbon or twine through the hole. Put a glob of hot glue on one en of the ribbon. Press the other ribbon down on it to make a loop.

Repeat this process until you have use up all of your Family Photo or your Christmas garland is as long as your want.

Now, you can also use a variety of beads on the ribbon or twine of the garland to add sparkle.

If you have an existing Christmas garland that you already like and don't want to put it away then you can add your Family Photos to it. Simple punch the holes as before. Use floral wire to loop through the hole and secure the Family Photos the garland. This is a great way to speed up this process.

Personally, I like to add my Family Photos garland to some real evergreen garland and then drape it on my windows in the same room as my Christmas tree.

Takeaways
  • Use floral wire to loop through the hole and secure the Family Photos the garland.
  • Cut your ribbon to 6 inches long.
