Should You Fast on a Raw Food Diet?

There are plenty of diets and fads going around these days. Everyone wants to either lose weight or just become healthier overall. It can be a real chore attempting to find a program that really works for you. As with all things, even when a product looks good many questions must follow. Let's take a look at one that I have used for years now, the raw food diet. Should you fast on a raw food diet and what are the risks?

First my reasons for fasting have absolutely nothing to do with weight loss. I was introduced to fasting as a means to detoxify myself from all the junk food I consumed. When I first started to fast it was the hardcore nothing to eat at all and only drink water. That was a bit difficult, between the hunger pains and the headaches. A friend showed me the raw food diet and how eating raw natural foods was a fast from everyday eating and detoxified the body.

The raw food diet fast is simply eating raw natural foods without cooking, drinking natural juices, and of course water. The foods we consume daily are loaded with chemicals to keep them fresh as well as all the bad fat we don't need. When you start eating a diet based solely on natural foods, your body can begin to repair itself. Not having all that grease and fat intake boosts your energy levels tremendously. Do not be surprised if after a couple of days you have difficulty falling asleep a night or so. The digestion process is much better with the raw diet because our stomach acids don't have to work overtime breaking down junk food. Another thing to consider is that because there is no saturated fat, little salt, and is relatively high in fiber and potassium, the raw food diet can been associated with lowering cholesterol. For all you weight watchers out there, I don't need to tell you what the weight loss factor is. Just think, on the raw food diet you can pretty much eat all the natural food you want without gaining weight.
