An online support community has been created for families and friends that have been directly or indirectly affected by cancer. The website, Laughatcancer.com, is a safe and rapidly expanding forum where people can share stories of triumph, offer remembrances of loved ones lost or openly discuss their daily struggle with the disease.

"I started out by creating a local chapter here in Jacksonville nearly three years ago, but I was unable to find a place to hold our meetings on a regular basis," said founder and president Crystal Kauffman, an Associated Content writer who is waging a relentless battle with the disease. "In addition, many of the members were disabled and unable to attend the meetings. After partnering with Ning.com in Feb. 2008, I created the Laugh at Cancer (LAC) Support Community online."

According to Kauffman, the online community has grown to more than 100 people since it was launched, and the members, ranging from children and teens to the elderly, hail from many different countries. Kauffman and Ning.com recently teamed up to create the LAC Youth Support Community and the Pet Cancer Support Community in order to help cancer victims with specific needs. "In this time of uncertainty, our mission is to help each member focus on living beyond cancer's reach," stated Kauffman.

"Every new member has an opportunity to meet new friends and honor loved ones ravaged by this devastating disease. In the future, we hope to become a non-profit organization and offer more resources for all types of cancers; while raising awareness and celebrating the beauty of life. Therefore, we invite the public to join us in our effort to help make a difference," Kauffman concluded.

This is a terrific idea for those with cancer. It's great to have a place to go and share with others who are going through the same thing. I lost my Mom to cancer back in 88 so I know just how awful this disease is. It's time they find a cure! Great article!!

To the following people: "CK", you KNOW "The G-Man's" got your back. Michele, thank you so much for the comment and all that you do to help make a difference in the lives of those suffering pain and loss. You can rejoice in the fact that when you walk through the "pearly gates" Klausie" will come running, leap onto you and lick your face like crazy. THAT, my dear lady, is heaven. Keep fighting the good fight! To Miss. Kimberly Gray, thanks for stopping by. Finally, to my ARTME, you are a woman of amazing strength and talent. Thank you for sharing such an important aspect of yourself with the people of AC. God bless you all!

when I was 11 years old I had a bone cancer, and they wanted to cut my ARM off , but my mother said there isn't a thing we can do differnt. I was the 3rd child in the USA to get this operation done and I have a plastic plate in my arm.
