Countless adults as well as kids post photos and personal information on MySpace every day, but have you ever wondered why some people choose to share questionable pictures and information about themselves? They never consider how this information could be used against them when applying for jobs or when facing charges in court. Pictures posted on MySpace of underage drinking, drug use, and participation in other illegal activities are incriminating, especially when accompanied by descriptive captions added by the profile owner. Kids are not the only ones who post photos of illegal activities that could come back to haunt them in court or elsewhere in their lives. Pictures of adults doing drugs and allowing kids to do the same can be found as well, and it is more common than many people realize.

MySpace and Information that Can Be Used in Court

Spend just a few minutes looking through MySpace profiles and you will find these types of images and admissions of underage drinking and blatant drug use. Freedom of speech and freedom of expression are a right we have as Americans, but be careful what you share on MySpace, especially if you have been charged with a crime and will be facing charges in court. The following information will explain how your MySpace profile can and will be used against you in a court of law. At the very least, you will gain attention, but it will not be the type of attention you were seeking when posting the information on your MySpace page. You will be watched by law enforcement, and you might even end up behind bars.

I was saddened to hear of how Susie's father was treated. He did the right thing by reporting what she had posted on MySpace though, at least trying to get his daughter to come to her senses. Thanks for the update too. Parents do their children a disservice when they do not speak up when their children are engaged in criminal activity. It isn't "protection" to keep that information to yourself. Sophie

Excellent work, Crystal. Free space can result in less free time. How ironic...

Facebook is even worse. They have a really shadily worded privacy policy about sharing your personal info with businesses, et cetera. (At least that's how it was a couple of months ago.) To make it worse, they have targeted ads on your personal facebook that are aimed at YOUR relationship status (i.e. wedding bands for those "in a relationship" or weight loss tips for those "engaged") or the bands on your "favorite music" list. Creeeepy.

Thanks Momie. I hope she can too. It's sad when someone throws the potential they have away on drugs and alcohol.

Great article. I hope Susie can turn her life around one day. I am amazed at some of the stuff people post online in general, not just on MySpace.
