Children are often left out of the New Year's fun because the holiday has become more adult-centered. This year, why not try something different? Have your usual adult-party, but have the
kids set up shop in the basement or in another room of the house with a babysitter (or another parent willing to miss out on all the adult fun!) These are some activities that children can do at any New Year's Party that don't involve a lot of running around or knocking things over- so in essence you can have two parties at once!

Before we get into the activities, you'll probably want to set out some basic food and drink for the children since you are basically throwing a mini New Year's party for them. Deli meat, cheese, cheese, bread, fruits and vegetable trays are all easy to set out and can be left at room temperature for a while.Sparking Cider or Sparking Grape juice is a great New Year's beverage to serve! You can even find plastic wine glasses at most party-supply stores so the children can feel like they are enjoying in the New Year's fun! If you don't want to set out food you can just order a pizza and make a space between party activities for everyone to eat.

Cookie decorating is a great New Year's party activity that every child will love! You can either bake the cookies yourself the night before the party, or have parents bring cookies along with their child. It's best to have a couple different types of cookie like chocolate chip, sugar, and peanut butter. This is a sit down activity so make sure that you have a large table and enough chairs for all the children. You'll also probably want to cover the table you are using with a plastic table cloth because cookie decorating can get quite messy! Set out tubes of icing in various colors, jars of sprinkles, and candies like Mini M&M's and Reese's Pieces. Also set out ziploc bags so the children can take the extra cookies home with them! Depending on how many cookies each child has to decorate, this activity can fill up their time for a while!
