A serving of rolled oats contains soluble fiber, and it is one of the healthiest natural foods available. It is also one of the least expensive, and eating oatmeal is said to help reduce the risk of heart disease by helping lower cholesterol levels. If you have found yourself with large amounts of oatmeal and you do not know how to use it, or if you have been told to add oatmeal to your diet in an effort to help lower cholesterol levels, give the following ideas a try. Oatmeal is good for far more than hot cereal, and it can be added to the diet on a daily basis to help lower cholesterol while making meals go much further. My husband is a truck driver, and after he was told to throw away two cases containing large canisters of oatmeal packaged for commercial use, I began looking for ways to use it. I am not a wasteful person, and the first thing I did upon opening the first damaged case was look for an expiration date beneath a canister. The oatmeal has a use-by date approximately two years beyond the date of packaging. I gave several canisters away to neighbors, family, and friends, but I have kept about a dozen. After thinking of ways to use it I know I will be able to use the oatmeal I am storing. I have found ways to use the large amounts of oatmeal we were given, and I know it will save a great deal of money by making meals go further while providing great health benefits by helping to lower cholesterol levels.
Classic Meatloaf
My favorite meatloaf recipe contains sage and rolled oats. If you are looking for ways to add oatmeal to your diet, find a meatloaf recipe that calls for oatmeal, or consider blending your own according to personal preferences. Blend approximately two pounds of lean meat along with sage, garlic powder, minced onion, and tomato sauce, and add one large egg and one cup of rolled oats to help hold the mixture together. When the meat mixture is baked the oatmeal will not be apparent, but it will still provide fantastic health benefits that help lower cholesterol. It will also help make the meat go further while giving it fantastic texture and flavor.
