This is in regards to them wanting to make a New Ruling to come with Antidepressant medications about that they can be dangerous for some people and cause them to become even more Depressed or suicidal and even consider killing themselves, or succeed in suicide. I feel this is one thing a Doctor really never considers and Mental Health Associations just continue to hand out the drugs thinking that is the answer, and if someone ends up killing themselves due to it, they say it was other issues and not the medications.

I have taken Antidepressants in my lifetime, and where for many people they have done good, it seems like I kept on having to change the ones I was on due to either none of them really working for me, or allergic reactions, etc. I know many of them may have even made me feel worse to the point I knew there was no hope for me. I was Lucky enough thru Faith and the Power of Prayer to where I have not had to take any Antidepressants for over 8 1/2 yrs. now.

But I am a Survivor of Abuse, and suffer from PTSD. and I know for me as for I am sure many others out there in the World, Anti Depressants are not always the answer, and can kill you if you are not constantly monitored and aware of what is going on around you. Most of those Drugs are like a narcotic, and numb you to where you may not feel like you should, and can be Dangerous to a lot of people. I became totally psychotic on Prozac and almost killed myself. Luckily I reached out for help, and even though I was Hospitalized for about a month back in 1992, I feel it was the best thing for me that saved my life.

No, I am not saying all Antidepressants never help anyone, as there are probably some here who feel better and can function more on them than where they could before taking them, but what I am saying, is Antidepressants can be dangerous, and they need to make this more known. I am Glad they are considering finally making sure the word is actually going to get out.

Did You Know?
Depression and Medications have it's good points and it's bad. It is all in what is the best for you.

I've personally used several different types of antidepressants, and only one ever worked for me. I talked to a therapist once that had several theories about why antidepressant patients kill themselves, and none of them were a direct side effect of the drug. I still wish that hospitals wouldn't hand them out like candy.

Tina, I feel privileged that you shared this information with me, and think you are a courageous soul. Best to you in the future, too!

Great article, Tina. If a person can be treated without anti depressants then that is great. I have seen people on them become worse at times. Sophie

Tina- As a MH professional (LCSW) I have mixed feelings about this, as I have seen them work - but I DO agree that if people can be treated successfully without these meds - that is best and that the best treatment for depression is, actually, activity. Less risk that way, for sure!

I think it differs from person to person. There are some that want to live on the drug and don't want to get better. There are some that do not know that they can get off of the anti-depressants and learn to cope with the help of therapy. Then, there are those (such as I did) that take them to steady themselves out while they attend and *work* at therapy. I've been off of all my medication (except Restoril but that's the risk you run when you have Lupus too - sleeplessness) for two years. I am glad to read that you are not completely eliminating the thought of someone using the medication for what it is intended for; I am also glad to see someone point out the risks.

You know what? I took mine for about a month and I was more depressed raking them because I had to quit nursing my son because I was taking them. When i was screened and told the shrink why I felt I didn't need them, he never prescribed them to me again :)
