Top Five Things British Expats Love About Bangkok, Thailand

British Expats Love Living in Bangkok, Thailand

There are many British expats living in Bangkok, Thailand, many of whom plan to stay in Thailand permanently. As a British expat living in Bangkok, I too love it here and don't plan on leaving. Thailand has a lot to offer expats, and there are many things that British expats love about
Top Five Things British Expats Love About Bangkok, Thailand
Thailand, but these are the things they love the most.

5. The Weather - For most British expats, the weather in Thailand is wonderful. In the UK, it rains all the time. So, when a British expat decides to settle in Thailand, having hot sunny weather all year round is part of the appeal. For many American expats though, they don't like the weather. It's too hot all the time and, unlike America, which has good weather but also has seasons, Thailand doesn't have seasons. The Thais joke that the seasons in Thailand are 1) the hot season, 2) the hotter season, and 3) the hottest season. For British expats coming from a country where we have 1) the rainy season, 2) the rainier season and 3) the rainiest season, Thailand's weather makes Thailand seem like paradise.

4. The British Pubs - Bangkok has a lot of British pubs. Most of them are around the Sukhumvit or Silom areas of Bangkok, or near Khao San Road. For a British expat who likes to go out and have a nice British pub meal and a few beers with his friends, Bangkok is a fabulous city. There are more than 20 British pubs that I can think of in Bangkok, just on a moments notice. They are more expensive than their Thai counterparts but, for decent British food and a beer and a place to hang out with other expats, they're really fun.

3. The Thai People - Thais are very friendly, relaxed and always smiling. For many British expats, they enjoy the friendliness of the Thais as Britain seems to have lost its' friendliness years ago. I know I'm always surprised when I go back to England on holiday to find that the British are not always as friendly as I remember them. Even in Bangkok, Thais are always friendly and polite so, for British expats, Bangkok really is a breath of fresh air.

Anon, THANK YOU so much. Really nice to know someone got some benefit from one of my articles. I was probably AT The Londoner at the same time as you were :-) It's a really great Christmas lunch, isn't it :-) Thanks again!

Felt obliged to thank you for your info. After reading some of your articles we booked our Christmas lunch at the Londoner even before we flew to Bangkok. We are located in Tokyo and tend to miss decent English food, so one of our missions was to look for a nice British restaurant in Bangkok. Right, at "the Londoner" we had THE BEST Christmas course lunch we've ever had!! It was absolutely memorable and beautiful. ("Oh, My Cod" was nice, too) We're so glad we read your articles. - N

Bangkok sounds wonderful. Now if there was only more of an interesting British expat culture here where I'd live, I'd be a happy little expat! Just one British pub would do! Sophie
