Obama won't be counting on the support of one of Hillary Clinton's backers, Lynn Forester de Rothschild. According to an AP report, Lynn Forester de Rothschild, who was responsible for raising over $100,000 for the Hillary Clinton campaign, will announce today in Washington that she supports GOP candidate, John McCain. Ms. Forrester de Rothschild is a member of the DNC Platform Committee. Citing the perceived arrogance of Barack Obama and her assertion that Barack Obama can't connect with the average American, Lynn Forester de Rothschild is now throwing her support behind the McCain ticket.

In a Wall Street Journal opinion piece that appeared on September 11, Lynn Forester de Rothschild takes Obama to task on several issues, calling him an elitist who is out of touch with working class Americans. She draws the comparison between Adlai Stevenson and Barack Obama, referring to Obama as the "new, improved Mr. Stevenson..." Adlai Stevenson was the new hope of the Democratic party in the 1950s, but according to Ms. Forester de Rothschild, failed to connect with working class Americans and thus lost the election.

In addition to comparing Obama to a past losing candidate, Lynn Forester de Rothschild goes a step further and asserts that Obama is an elitist. She cites his Berlin speech, the faux Presidential Seal and the Greek columns on stage for his packed stadium acceptance speech at the DNC Convention last month. She asserts that Obama's above-named actions are elitist and only serve to widen the gulf between him and the average American voter.

How are Democrats taking the news of Lynn Forester de Rothschild's endorsement of McCain?

That a Baroness (literally) is calling a guy who was raised by a single mom and food stamps an elitist is an irony too rich for words. Aristocrats for McCain!!!

Lynn Forester De Rothschild is a member of the elite. A member of the elite is someone who through smarts and hard work has achieved great success. Obama is an elitist, that is he thinks he is better than anybody else and everybody should do as he says. ( " I am the ONe you have been wating for" ) Being an eletist is an attitude and has nothing to do with your mother having been on food stamps.

Other than Hilliary Clinton - I don't think most Democrats knew who this person was - and she got to be part of the platform committee because she gave generously to the party. It works the same on both sides of the aisle. Now, if someone switched sides for policy reasons (Dick Riordan supporting Obama, Joe LIberman supporting McCain) that would be newsworthy. This was a women doing self-promotion, period.

I'm just curious. Where were Democrats before she changed her position?? Were they calling this lady an elitest then?? Of course not!! You are only an elitist if you leave the Democrat camp. Otherwise, you can have all the money in the world; e.g. Oprah, the world's richest woman, who could buy this lady a thousand times, would NEVER be called ANYTHING by Democrats, except of course, the "Queen of talk"

Nice write-up Carly. As for the elitist comments below, wasn't it Obama who just a few days ago attended the glitzy Streisand/Hollywood/elitist bash as the rest of America wondered if their financial world was crumbling around them? I really don't think it's a good idea to get into the elitist debate when you consider who Obama's friends, mentors and supporters are. Bryan...as for McCain's comment that the fundamentals of our economy are still strong...he is absolutely right. Leading economists confirm that. If you know anything about economics, you know that our economy is made up of much more than the stock market. We obviously have major problems, but we can overcome them. Obama's response showed a lack of understanding of the inner workings of our economy. McCain has been down this road before...he gets it.

My guess: the good "Lady" has a crush on Palin. After all, for some sexists, any woman in power will do, even if she undermines everything women's rights has built up over the last hundred years. Go Vagina!

I get it... On the same day the two largest banks still standing collapsed, McCain said "the fundamentals of our economy are strong" - but OBAMA is "out of touch". That's a fantastic joke. Wait... you mean you aren't kidding? Well, WTF!

Excellent article! There is so much double-speak, double backing, and double crossing in this election, that it would warrant its own reality TV show.

Interesting news. Nice piece.

great analysis! I liked how you went i depth with Lady De Rothschild's reasons for endorsing McCain, and the parallels to Adlai Stevenson.

Great job Carly -- that's all I can right now because I'm ROTFL and on the verge of a childish comment. ;)

Yes, I see the irony. One of Hillary's wealthy fundraisers, a Rothschild no less, sees working class born Obama as elitist - but not legacy-lucky McCain. No offense to McCain - it's not his fault elitists support him. Of course, he is raising a boatload of money AND taking the federal money that Obama turned down when he realized in this country you can't win an election without lots of private donors. It's the system that is the most elitist. Who cares what some rich dowager thinks and how in touch is she?

Does anyone else see the irony in this. LMAO. The Elite of the elite (historically rich - British banking family) saying Obama is an elitist? Are we in Bizarro World now? I mean seriously, McCain seems very embroiled with the Rothchild, Vanderbilt -- crowd. I don't know, haven't seen the Hampton "summer house" set hanging around Obama lately. This is almost an SNL comedy skit!
