Cat Dog Halloween Costume
Begin dressing up your dog up like a black cat by putting him in a small, lightweight black sweater. If necessary, cut some material from an old black sweater you no longer wear and sew it up to fit him. Make a little hood out of part of the material to cover his ears, but don't bind them. Then bend a coat hanger and cut it off with wire cutters to make the base for the ears. Pad the ends with tape to protect your pet's head. Cut two triangles of black cloth and two of pink cloth. Sew them together and slip them over the hanger pieces. Secure these to the black hood with thread. Add a slender black tail at the back of this Halloween dog costume.

Make a brown suit for your cat in a similar fashion. Ensure that the hood covers her ears completely, but keep it loose enough for her comfort. Then make four floppy brown ear shapes from brown cloth or felt. Sew the ear pieces together, then turn them right side out and stuff them with a little cotton. Add little tufts of faux fur on the edges for a more realistic effect. Make this cat costume complete by adding a stiff brown tail with fur at the end.
Cat in the Hat Halloween Costume
The Cat in the Hat costume is great for either a cat or a dog. Make a slender, tall white hat out of chipboard and felt. Wrap red strips of felt around the hat and hot glue them on. Sew on two elastic straps and carefully tie the hat on your pet. Make a little black sweater and add some white felt to the chest with glue. Make a large red bow tie from felt and attach it to the front of the pet costume.
