Overview of the Special K Diet Plan

Special K Exposè

You've seen the commercials for years. 'Lose up to 6 pounds in 2 weeks!' the Special K box proudly boasts. Does it really work??

Special K, a cereal product of Kellogg, has been promoting their 'Special K Challenge' as a quick and safe weight loss alternative for years. Let's take a
look at the details behind that claim...

Exactly what is the 'diet'?
+ Eat a serving of Kellogg's Special K cereal with 2/3 cup skim milk and fruit for two meals a day.
+ Eat your third meal as you normally do.
+ For snacks, choose from fresh fruits and vegetables or a Special K Bar.
+ Consume beverages as you normally do.

What's special about Special K cereal?
Nothing. It's a little better for you than some of the marshmallow filled sugar-encrusted cereal choices on the shelves these days, but not by much. Special K cereal is made with high fructose corn syrup, and it actually contains less potassium and fiber than some other breakfast choices. It's not magic food; it's just cereal.

Does the Special K Diet work?
Technically, yes it does. People who manage to stay on the plan the whole two weeks, lost about two pounds a week in studies. It's not the most effective plan, but losing 4-5 pounds in two weeks is more than some people have managed on other plans.

How does the Special K Diet work?
It works by making you starve. Yes, really. That's the 'secret' to the Special K diet. It's a drastically low-calorie diet compared to what most people are normally eating. If you eat nothing but a small bowl of cereal (around a hundred calories), when you're used to eating 800, 1000, or more calories for breakfast, then your body has no fuel!! Do that for two meals a day and you'll lose weight simply because you're not eating as many calories as you're using up each day.

What about the one 'regular' meal at night?
By the time you get to dinner, you're going to be so hungry that you will probably overeat, which is why you end up only losing a couple pounds each week. If you could keep your supper intake at the same calories level you were eating before the Special K diet, you would lose even more.

You are seriously stupid. Starving means not eating dumbass. I'm pretty sure your not starving yourself at all I'm on this diet and I eat 5 times a day and I'm sorry but I wouldn't consider that starving. But thanks for your smartass input.

I have been on the special k diet for the last two weeks and I have managed to lost 11pounds I love it. However it does leave you a little hungry NOT starved by HUNGRY yes. I think it's also help shrink my stomach so that when I decide to eat I can only consume but so much because I am full quicker then normal.

you dont have to starve yourself to lose weight. Just quit making excuses and do some sort of workout. eat what you want in moderation. But make sure you work out. drink 8 glasses of water a day. If your sitting on the couch saying you dont have time then its your fault!!Whats keeping you from doing sit ups or jumping jacks while watching soaps?? Get you a routine, and stick to it. If you buy regular butters, mayo and such, try light!!! Dont have to go off it all cold turkey!!! If you dont diet smart, its very unhealthy, especially if you starve yoruself on a regular basis. Your body burns fat, and after all the fat, then it eats muscle. SO YOUR HEART is a muscle!!! You can die if you dont watch what you are doing!!!. YOu cannot cut out all the carbs, or fats and anything else. YOUR BODY NEEDS IT!!!! Just in healthier doses!!! If your not getting the right vitamins and continue to diet unhealthy, things will suffer, your skin changes, your bones and teeth and hair will be brittle. If

Ive' been doing the Special K diet for a long time now & it does work for me. Everyone is different so you have to find the diet that works for you. It doesn't leave me feeling starved. Hungry later on yes, but I could eat a chicken sandwhich & still be hungry for a snack after. If I want a snack, I have fruit, a cereal bar or a salad. So, how is that starving youself? I lost 25 lbs & have kept it off for over a year. I don't eat the cereal as much as I used to. Alot of times just for lunch. It helps me keep off the weight. I don't always remember or have the time to bring breakfast or lunch to work so leaving a box of cereal at my desk & a container of skim milk keeps me away from buying fast food. I do work out in addition. Nothing crazy just walking with some situps & side bends afterwards. Every diet is debated. Atkins, South Beach & even Weight Watchers. Who cares. Like I said, its all about what works for you as long as your not losing weight by means of an eating disorder.

I loved this article. At the risk of insulting anyone, if a person went on this diet thinking that it was some kind of miracle diet, they would have to be an idiot. Of course it would work, because as you so humorously put it , YOU Would be STARVING!! You did good! real good!
