If you believe that everyone else is having a wonderful time planning for the holidays, eagerly waiting for Christmas Day, you are wrong. The Christmas season is often times the worst time of year for many people. What makes it even worse is believing that everyone else is on this great gleeful emotional high. Happily buying presents, and excited about spending time with their gloriously close knit family. Truth is most families have had some kind of disappointment, or trauma to deal with. If not during the year then in the not so distant past. Sometimes it is in their childhood, or in their adult life. Sadly many people are divorced or their parents or children are divorced. There are split custodies, or fueding families. Children off to war or worse yet, injured or killed in war. Not to mention accidents, illnesses and other injuries.
Then there is the job lay-offs or cut backs. Catastrophes such as Katrina, or other major weather horrors. People who have lost their houses to fires, or floods and house foreclosures. Major illnesses and deaths in the family are also just a few of the things that many are suffering.
Then of course there are just the run of the mill depression and addiction and domestic violence problems, affairs and family squabbles. Now if you weren't depressed before you should be by now.
So what is the solution for you, assuming you are dealing with something like this? True there is only so much you can do about your problems. You may not be able to stop your father from drinking or get over your divorce. You may not be able to spend Christmas with your kids or your family, but there are things you can do to help with your depression.
