When I came to college for my second year, I knew that I was going to need something to help me cook my meals. Having spent most of my first year dining out, I also knew that I could not afford to eat pizza, and go to fast-food restaurants everyday. This is one of the mistakes that I made when I came to college under the assumption that there would be adequate cooking facilities to cover my needs. I soon realized that I would need some things to cook on my own, and at the top of that list was an electric skillet. I went to the Fred Meyer in my hometown, and picked up an Oster Deluxe, Clear-Lid Electric Skillet. My hopes were that I would be able to cook anything in it that I would be able to cook on the stove. Much to my surprise, it fulfilled more than just those basic needs. I mean, I could cook just about anything that I could possibly want on it! This ranges from eggs, to bacon, to spam, and even to popcorn! The biggest hassle I thought I would encounter, would be to make sure that I did not damage it, and that it would have a long life. So, I will now explain all of the processes that I have used to make it look just as good as new now as it did when I purchased it!
The first, and most important thing to taking care of your skillet, is to make sure that you have a place to put it. I actually saved the box, and each time that I was done using it, I would place it all back in the box, and slide that box right under my bed. This made it so that I would always be sure to put it away after using it, and that I would have to clean it after each time that I used it. This actually proved to be a very good thing, because I sometimes have a habit of letting dishes stack up before I actually wash them. Having something that I had to clean each time, also transferred over to the rest of the dishes, and I would wash them all at the same time.
