Human Bonds
Children's Links to Parents Marginalized in Era of the Narcissist
You might be surprised to hear one day, that many adopted children later in life, do not support adoption. Perhaps its because the decision was never adoption versus abortion, for the simple reason that the child is born before it is adopted. The long-term result of the adoption separation from the biological mother is practically permanent, much like the guilt from the abortion.
In large measure, the pro-life and pro-choice camps have their own marketing needs, to sustain their views and funding. The first group will sensibly espouse that adoption is better than abortion, since the child lives. The second group will remind everyone that the mother was there first, and that she should have the final say, whatever the health and/or financial reasons given. Some also believe that there is too many unwanted children, and too many starving and/or afflicted with disease. These two positions would appear to be dialectically opposed while in fact they are both in rhetorical agreement. This is because they both approve of the separation of the biological mother and her child, in one form or anther.
The truth is, any separation of both the mother and the father from the child creates lasting psychological damage. The loving, caressing and nurturing mother's care, which the child identifies chemically, by sound through her voice (talking, singing) and with the bond of permanent acceptance and forgiveness, is not replaceable. Likewise, the father's role of authority and security are also identifiable with both father and child's inherent ability to see parts of themselves in each other. The bonds of trust are the sacred link that should not be broken so intentionally.
