Foster kids usually age out of the system with no skills on dealing with life.Having been a foster child I propose there be a communtiy center specifically for adult foster kids where they can go to learn skills from cooking, to budgeting, to socialization. There could be workshops, classes, seminars; etc. on a daily basis. In addition the center would be a focal point for them to gather 24 hours a day if needed, holidays included since many of them don't have families to go home to or families that aren't good for them. It would be staffed by professionals and volunteers.

Takeaways
  • The center would be open 24 hours a day.
  • The center would be staffed by professionals and volunteers.
  • Foster kids usually age out of the system with no skills on dealing with life.
Did You Know?
A lot of former foster kids get involved with drugs?

Every county within the state of Calif. is required to ensure each child aged 16+ enrolls in the ILSP courses, which teach all of the skills you refer to. The workers who do not should be fired! Social workers are responsible for getting the information to the teens on their caseload, but not all do. I, too, wish there was something for the teens who emancipate that were not taught these skills.
