Important Tips for the Female Driver

Through the years, I have noticed just how blessed I am to have some working knowledge on vehicles and how to do simple maintenance on them. I have heard many of my female friends tell stories of how they were stranded on the side of the road for many hours because they experienced an
issue with their automobile. Many of the issues were relatively simple ones, like a flat tire. I feel it is very important for females to have some sort of knowledge regarding the proper care and maintenance of their vehicles. Additionally, I feel that it is vital that they understand how to do simple mechanics in case they do run into an issue while alone on the many streets in our Nation. In this article, I will be describing some important tips for the female driver.

The first important tip for the female driver that I feel should be applied in every situation, is to know and understand the vehicle that you are driving. It amazes me how many of my friends and family members do not know how to check their fluid levels, the air pressure in their tires, and other small things. Every female driver should learn all the various parts and components that make up the most common areas where issues arise in a vehicle. Every female should know how to do the following:

*Check the Oil Level

*Check the Transmission Fluid

*Check the Vehicle Coolant

*Check the Air Pressure in the Tires and be able to air them up alone

*Change a Flat Tire

*Check the Brake Fluid

*Understand how to use Jumper Cables

*Understand how to hook up a battery

*Know how to check the fuses in the vehicle

I think it would be helpful for female drivers to even know how to do the following:

*Do their own oil changes

*Change the spark plugs

*Change the air filter

*Change the fuel filter

*Change an alternator

*Change an alternator belt

*Change a starter

*Jumpstart a starter

Great article, Angie. I agree that we should all be knowledgeable of (at the very least) the basic functions of the vehicle that we drive, and know how to do simple repairs. While it is true that more females than men do not know vehicle repair/maintenance basics, I also know so many men who are also clueless on this subject, and spend hundreds of unecessary dollars on repairs at the shop.
